How might improving communications improve health outcomes?

Health care professionals are experts at understanding diseases or health conditions, and their clinical impacts.  As an anthropologist, I have developed an expertise in understanding the people (also called patients) who experience and cope with those diseases or health conditions on a daily basis.

By intentionally partnering with providers, patients, and researchers from different disciplines, I collaboratively conduct research bringing qualitative methods to a mixed methods table,  to ensure that patient perspectives and experiences are at the table of any work to improve health outcomes, particularly for people with chronic or non-communicable diseases.

How do people read their sensations and make decisions about care?

Doing research in both Indonesia and the U.S. I have found cultural patterns in how people respond to bodily sensations and either seek care or make ongoing adjustments to sensations to engage in activities that matter.

How does access to online knowledge or care inform those decisions?

In this digital age, I have  examined how online health information and online care appointments impact clinical interactions as well as patient decision making.

How does the manner of knowledge communication inform everyday actions and ultimately impact health outcomes?
